    <description>No. A 1500-watt electric heater converts essentially all of that electricity into heat, so every one of them puts out about 5,100 BTU per hour regardless of brand, price, or the word on the front. What differs is how the heat is distributed, how accurate the thermostat is, and how safe the unit is — and safety is not a small point, because space heaters cause a wildly disproportionate share of fatal house fires. Buy on distribution, thermostat and safety certification. There is no such thing as a warmer 1500-watt heater.</description>

From June 2019 portable dehumidifiers are tested at 65°F instead of 80°F, to reflect the cool basements they actually get used in. Cool air holds less moisture, so the same hardware measures lower — ENERGY STAR&#39;s own conversion table puts an old 60-pint unit at roughly 35 pints under the new procedure. A 50-pint dehumidifier today is a bigger machine than a 50-pint dehumidifier from 2018, and any guide, review or comparison written before mid-2019 is using incompatible numbers.</description>

AHAM&#39;s certified room size assumes 4.8 air changes per hour and works out to smoke CADR × 1.55 square feet — which is the same thing as the rule of thumb that CADR should be at least two-thirds of your floor area. When a manufacturer advertises a much larger coverage area than AHAM&#39;s figure for the same unit, it is not a better machine; it is the same machine assuming far fewer air changes per hour. Buy on the certified smoke CADR number, size up for ceilings over eight feet, and use two smaller units rather than one heroic one in an open plan.</description>
